they belong to an extended network of people (current students, teachers, other alumni), and this may be useful in their career.
i wish i could say yes to all of the above, but our university is not there yet.
they enlarge their own professional (and personal) network, have opportunities to engage internationally via the alumni networks, find mentors...
because alumni are highly involved with their alma mater, they are more likely to engage with it online. this improves the impact of communication (and also marketing) with other alumni.

for me, the biggest thing that hei can offer alumni is access to resources, networks, and other benefits that alumni may need along their journey. however, it really is up to the hei to engage alumni to understand what they need and want.
