It is the interpreter's job to be unobtrusive in their choice of clothing, and we may not always know if the clients we work with have visual issues with patterns or specific colors. it seems safer to wear contrasting colors that are neutral in design for the benefit of all clients we may work with, regardless of the location. The patterns are too strong and create visual noise. the white necklace draws too much attention (the eye is attracted to the brightest spot in a picture - it stands to reason that this white necklace would also be distracting). As a designated interpreter in an office setting Perhaps if the sweater didn't have a pattern on it. the pattern will make the hands difficult to see clearly, thus creating unnecessary eye strain for the consumer. Print is too bold; shoes may not be appropriate in many settings (comfort). If the shirt were solid, it would be fine for post-secondary (college) interpreting. The pants are fine, as is the shade of green, but i would never wear a patterned top to any kind of assignment. Kindergarten because there are no long periods of signing for the child to watch. The pants are fine for k-12, or possibly community, but the sweater is very busy. it could still be professional, though. No patterns on top. if the top was solid... sure appropriate choices as long as it contrasts with the skin tone of the interpreter. no necklace... could distract. I can see this being worn in k-8th. maybe not the heels. but it doesn't seem to match any other area. If the sweater was solid and did not have a pattern, and if the necklace was absent, i would wear this while interpreting. Remove the pattern and it would work. Drop the circles; the green is cool, but the blue pants hurt the eyes with the green sweater. The pattern is not too overwhelming, but it could be distracting. Patterns are never acceptable for interpreters. Pants are fine, but never a sweater! Try to have a solid color, no pattern. The pattern on the sweater is too visually distracting. I would not wear this to interpret. Patterned tops should generally be avoided. Without the pattern on the sweater Depends on whether completely blind. Too "busy". should be solid. Too much pattern, in my humble opinion. The pattern is distracting. Visually distracting

Could possibly be used for the community, but white would not work with this person's skin tone. this does not appear professional, however. Some may try to get away with this (i.e., wear it and hope the d/deaf don't complain). the zipper on the jacket sleeve is distracting and may catch on things if using tasl. the tan scarf depends on your skin tone. it is bulky, maybe okay for outside if necessary. Not sure Without the scarf - zip-up coat - maybe a fun type of convention, not a professional convention and not on stage. If the jacket is zipped up, it could be appropriate for some community colleges with more casual dress codes. i'm still undecided about this one. Not like this. if she took off the scarf and closed the jacket so she had a solid dark background, then it would be alright for most situations that were more "casual". I have seen so many interpreters wear big tan scarves during my college time. because sometimes the classroom can be freezing! Only suitable in performing arts without the tan scarf, and if you can zip the jacket for more contrast as needed. Might be okay in k-12 if they lose the leather jacket and have darker skin so that the sweater will contrast with their skin's color. Too much light color for this shade. a darker complexion might be able to make this work. These must be jokes. the color of the clothes on top should contrast with your skin tone. the scarf is bulky and distracting. Too casual, does not look professional. also, the scarf is bulky and distracting. Too bulky around the face, distracts from facial expression and shoulder movement. I do worry, though, that the scarf may be a problem. but at least this outfit is comprised of solid colors. Too much visual noise; black and white, too much contrast; the scarf is in the way. Do you want to be shot? Without the bulky scarf and as long as the black stays over the white top. Too casual and you're not riding horses or motorcycles. This may be appropriate in a college class setting. If the jacket is zipped up, then it is acceptable. The large scarf is visually distracting. I would not wear this to interpret. Not enough color contrast. Remove scarf upon arrival. Without the scarf Remove scarf

No idea I personally like to wear solid colors while interpreting, but i feel that this combo, the sweater in particular, is too bright and distracting. Brighter colors are good for darker skin tones, but not really appropriate for lighter skin. Appropriate for interpreting for clients with low vision -- with their prior consent or direction and based on the skin tone of the interpreter. A bright color, like patterns and stripes, creates unnecessary eye strain. we need to be considerate of our consumers. This would tire anyone's eyes, especially if the job is long or technical. Depending on the legal context, it might be on. The green may cause too much eye strain. Colors can be somewhat distracting. That shade of green would be tiring for the eyes. Only if the interpreter has dark skin. Hell no! Change pink to black and i will like it. Too bright, too much strain on the eyes. I would not wear this to interpret. Very short assignment, maybe. Shirt okay for k-12, skirt okay for other places. My eyes! arrrghhh my eyes!!!! The color is too loud. Too much jewelry. Bright colors! Come on...

Sleeveless is a personal choice... if it's outdoors and it's above 90 degrees? maybe... do you groom your armpits? do you have tattoos? what is the scenario? i'd say if the school dress code allows it, sure... though a collared button-down sleeveless would look more professional. Living and working in the west where it can be very hot and very cold on the same day, and dealing with extreme ac indoors and high heat outdoors, bare arms are fine. Appropriate for some more casual assignments in places with a hot climate, such as arizona, texas, florida, or louisiana. however, i would have a jacket on hand, just in case. I'm unsure about this one. the color is good, and if the environment/situation is very hot, the interpreter shouldn't be faint and dripping sweat from the heat. Sleeveless shirts, i think, can be appropriate in low-risk, casual settings, especially if it is very warm. Add a dark solid jacket to this, and it may be appropriate for many community assignments. Sleeveless is never professional. put a blazer over this and it's perfectly fine for all interpreting situations...except maybe deaf-blind. Sleeveless is generally not acceptable (in my opinion), although the educational interpreting setting can sometimes be more casual. Only suitable for outdoors on a hot day, should have some kind of sleeve. May be suitable for an outdoor job when the weather is hot and the event is casual. Outdoor interpreting or when it is so hot that it could affect the product. Given the proper weather, this could be suitable for more casual settings. Only if there's a dark-colored blazer or lightweight cardigan on top. Will work in these situations if it has a sweater to cover the shoulders. Could be suitable for more situations if paired with a cardigan. Only outdoor, warm weather interpreting, when sleeves would be too hot. Sleeveless can only be worn in very casual settings. Possibly suitable in a very relaxed setting, or for outdoor interpretation. Okay, this one might be for informal interpreting on a very hot day. This blouse should have a blazer or something to wear over it. Maybe for a cruise or outdoor casual assignment, though. If it's an outdoor venue and the weather is hot. With a black cardigan, not sleeveless but the color is fine. Field trip, possible outdoor activity on a warm day. Perhaps for an outdoor event in a casual setting. I don't work in sleeveless without a jacket or sweater. May be suitable for a casual setting. Only okay with a sweater or jacket over it. I would not wear this to interpret. Some community - not all suitable If a jacket goes over it Black sweater upon arrival If you wear a jacket... okay. Staff in an office setting Outside on a hot day In hot weather Get sleeves Put on a sweater.

If the appointment is short, maybe this would be okay. accessories are distracting to a sighted consumer and may be scratchy or catch on db using tasl. button up the sweater during the job. I would not wear this to interpret, although it is not as distracting as the outfits before it. I think the neckline is a little busy with this outfit. the necklace, the bird, the dress neckline and the cardigan neckline? it's cute and i'd wear it but not to interpret. This is too much to look at. i think calmer prints are much more appropriate and will not distract the eye. Possibly okay if the sweater was covering more of the dress butt, but there is a lot going on in this outfit. Short assignment, maybe. the design on the sweater negates its effect to create a solid color background. If......and only if that cardigan were buttoned up at the top and the floral isn't showing in the t-zone. Too much contrast between the light sweater, printed dress, and dark belt. If the cardigan were more fully buttoned up, then it would be acceptable. The pattern is covered, and there is enough contrast between the hands and the sweater. Only if the sweater covers most of the top of the dress. Make sure to close the cardigan. The hills are alive with the sound of music. Maybe in a very casual situation. This could be appropriate depending on how casual the setting is. the top works well enough. The pants are too tight to be appropriate in a professional setting, in my opinion. someone else may find them appropriate. they look like leggings and not pants. Possibly for a casual, social event where people are sitting and the pants don't show. This outfit would be acceptable in community settings if the pants didn't look like leggings. if they were floral printed jeans, that would be more permissible. The top is fine, the pants are too busy. however, if you know your setting and clients well, it could be accepted. This is obviously a less formal outfit, but would blend in very well in many community and k-12 settings. In a vrs situation, where the pants couldn't be seen, it would be acceptable for a light-skinned interpreter. Shirt yes, pants no.. maybe if seated at a vrs call center and no one has their eyes assaulted by flowers. A fun outfit, nice solid-color blouse, but not appropriate for business/non-casual events. Too much cleavage and pants are distracting. don't let the black top fool you. Those art pants are leggings. the shirt is too low-cut and the sleeves are too short. If it's a casual setting for community interpreting. Floral leggings are too informal; the v-neck shows too much skin. The top is fine. the pants are not at all. leggings are not professional. I think the pants could possibly be a distraction. The shirt will work in any situation, the pants will work in nine of the situations. Pants are too tight and flashy for professional attire. Maybe it won't be formal enough for some settings. If the performer was wearing a similar outfit I would tolerate the pants! black solid would be better. No, even if sitting the whole time. those are not pants. Pants are too distracting. I would not wear these pants; the top is fine. Legal/performance add a jacket Top okay pants distracting The pants are too tight. The neck is too low. Inappropriate leggings Top okay, not pants. This is borderline. the pattern is not distracting; however, i personally would not wear it. i think in our field, it is important to look professional. wearing patterns is, in my opinion, not conveying the message of being professional. Again, i must admit that it is too distracting for our eyes to look at the interpreters. they can wear these outfits on their own time. but not during working hours. sorry! These flowers are subtle enough that they blend in with the dark fabric. they create less eye strain, but i would take a backup just in case. This is a pattern, but it is very subtle. i think this would be an okay blouse for your average interpreting assignment. This pattern is more subtle than the others, so perhaps it may be okay. but i still think it is too busy. Maybe this one. maybe! if you know the client and it is a quick appointment and you know they are super relaxed. It could be appropriate if you know the clients, but it is not as professional. The colors are dark enough for db, but the cut and chest may be too loose. Possible k/12 if there are no visually disabled students using your services. Print is subtle, so perhaps very light community interpreting. Still too pronounced a pattern, in my humble opinion. Maybe. it depends on the length of the assignment and the lighting. Provided solid color that matches (pants or skirt) Patterns are never acceptable for interpreters. Some community assignments - not all This blouse does not seem to be distracting. Possible for some social situations It's dark, think okay. Depends on the color of flowers. Patterns again. No patterns
