i think it is great fun and a good way to get attention and/or create awarenes of a topic
I find that the phenomenon is really interesting and i enjoy watching creative videos online where people perform in flash mobs, but i would not want to be in one.

I think it's a great way to get focus on a subject. Even though it might just be funny at first it can be used as a way to gain momentum for a cause.
