Cultural Studies: STAR TREK

How closely do you feel Star Trek relates to reality on a technical basis?

  1. mediocre, except for the communicators and video calls.
  2. huhu alcubierre, if only it weren't for the negative energy density... otherwise, some of it is probably quite made up.
  3. driving force for technological innovations
  4. over the years, the connection to reality has increased somewhat; many things are actually now in testing.
  5. in some ways, reality has already surpassed star trek - which is also due to the fact that star trek inspires technology and science. other things are still far-off future music.
  6. eczopc
  7. very close
  8. although far away, some of the technologies are already being invented today or were inspired by st (e.g., laptop).
  9. in some areas, today's technology has surpassed star trek (communication...), while in others, there is still no prospect of ever reaching star trek.
  10. i can't judge.
  11. we are approaching this time (except for the spaceships and so on)
  12. partly - partly. a lot of fiction, which, for example, was attempted to be implemented in star trek voyager with the help of scientists and "theoretical foresight," to see how it might really be in the future. it has been proven that the first flip phone was developed by a designer who was a star trek fan and was inspired by the "communicators" of the original series. but overall, i think that star trek technology deviates moderately to strongly from our reality or will deviate.
  13. acceptable and inspiring
  14. very close.
  15. partially
  16. near
  17. feasible
  18. quite conceivable
  19. quite close

  28. relatively far away
  29. the most realistic of all science fiction series
  30. relatively close to reality
  31. some plausible things for the future
  32. is slowly getting better
  33. rather unrealistic
  34. fail
  35. still far away
  36. theoretically possible
  37. fern

  73. new series in the realm of possibility; old series very far away.
  74. relative
  75. medium
  76. good implementation
  77. very close
  78. far away
  79. we are approaching the st reality ;-)
  80. in some areas, we are already technically in star trek (pads), but for the most part, much still lies (if at all) in the distant future.
  81. there are overlaps.
  82. fern
  83. quite, it has anticipated a lot...
  84. are on a short path there
  85. insignificant
  86. relatively close, as most technologies from star trek are based on actual theories and scientifically grounded foundations.
  87. while it is based on some real physics, insurmountable gaps are obviously bridged with fictional elements, such as dilithium as an energy source. also, things like sound in space have little to do with reality. entertainment is clearly the main focus.
  88. regarding what is technically possible: very close.
  89. quite far away
  90. in some areas very close, in others rather foreign.
  91. near
  92. medium
  93. much of what we see in star trek already exists today, see ipad.
  94. medium. the simple things like communicators and tablets are here; we will probably have to wait centuries for teleportation and warp drive.
  95. from the development of the past to today, i would say "close"... mobile phones, "sliding doors" in stores, etc...
  96. which series are we talking about? if i talk about tos, the answer would be different than, for example, with the series of the 24th century (and even among these there are differences; just compare the greater amount of technobabble in voy compared to ds9). the one closest to our reality is probably ent, but that is also intentional, as it serves as a bridge between tos and our reality.
