How closely do you feel Star Trek relates to reality on a societal basis?
fern
sometimes a utopia and then again a dystopia. i can't decide, and it depends on the series...
still far away
utopian
in the past, i considered it relatively close, but now i unfortunately see star trek only as a beautiful, idealistic utopia that is very far from reality.
there are many good approaches, such as regarding data's rights as an individual. however, in episodes shorter than an hour, it is naturally very limited what can be included that reflects reality. i think it's good that a lot is shown about the personalities of the characters, which makes the series feel very human.
in terms of what is humanly possible: close; in terms of how our current society is structured: low.
star trek should only be seen as a utopian vision.
