Floods in Odense

If flooding is a problem, what do you think would be a good solution to prevent it? Why you think that?

  1. Deal with stormwater at the surface, and make sure it can get away wothout harm when there is a lot of it.
  2. Absolute prevention is impossible. However, problems can be reduced. This has alway to be done in combination with improving the quality of life in the area (traffic, litter, parking, etc.)
  3. Better sewers
  4. We cannot avoid flooding right now as the climate takes time to adjust to our actions, but we can do something to minor the damages and we can at the same time do preventive action which will show effect in 10-20 years time. To adapt to the flooding we need to construct elevated surfaces where theres a sicurity risk i.e. underground stations. Furthermore the drain needs to be enlarged everywhere as it cannot stand the nowadys occuring floods. The preventive actions is to lower our green house gas emmisions, i.e. we must let our energy be supplied by more renewable energy as windmills, waterpower, earth-heat power and sun power.
  5. More urban green spaces. Less imperameable sufaces. Bigger drainage systems.
  6. Short term: LAR (in English local drainage of rainwater) and repairs of the drain system. Long term: stop climate changes
  7. Its not a problem yet. Put for the future we could try to stop global warming ?
  8. I know they removed some houses in Odense to make room for a big basin. I think people have to move away from the areas with high flood risks. I don't think it will be completely possible to solve the problems by introducing larger drainage systems combined with sustainable drainage systems.
  9. Mapping the areas of the city that risk being flooded and avoid paving and building too much those areas. Add more green areas in the city to limit the run-off.
  10. Better sewer system
