How can the process of relocating to Tanzania by the diaspora be simplified?

Since the beginning of the year 2020, there has been a remarkable increase in the number of African Americans arriving in Tanzania. A group of Tanzanian locals have been following this movement with keen interest and have decided to form a lobby group aimed at petitioning the government of Tanzania to take note of this movement as a positive development for the country and create a more conducive and favorable environment for the brothers and sisters from the USA seeking to relocate to this part of the great motherland.

This exercise seeks to collect feedback from African Americans that wish to relocate either permanently or temporarily to Tanzania. Whether you are already in Tanzania or you are still in the USA and are contemplating the move or you have come, stayed and left for one reason or the other, you are welcome to participate in this poll. The feedback we receive will be used in developing a special petition that will be presented to policy making senior officials in government. Note that for the multiple choice questions, you are allowed to select more than one answer. For the questions requiring your own expression, feel free to write your thoughts on one or more subject matters eg. immigration, business, cost of living etc.

Note that this poll is totally anonymous.

Write any suggestions you have that you feel would help to improve your experience and that of other diasporas permanently relocating to Tanzania?

  1. opening a checking account. getting a tanzanian id.
  2. we want to return home. we should be granted permanent residency after 5 years. we should be able to become citizens.
  3. mandatory swahili language school classes for 4-6 weeks as part of the visa.
  4. stop being ripped off by tanzania.
  5. remove all 90-day visa requirements.
  6. if africans from the diaspora are willing to relocate to africa permanently, in this case to tanzania, africa. i feel strongly that the tanzanian government should consider opening that door to black africans from around the globe. as long as they aren't a hindrance to the economy/government, grant us permanent residency upon approval and we will increase tanzania, not decrease or be stagnant there. thank you.
  7. i am 73 years old and would like to make tanzania my retirement home, with an interest in investing in local and/or diaspora businesses.
  8. to give the diasporas a chance to show who we really are. to allow investments that ensure longevity and financial security.
  9. if given adequate time (at least 2 years) to acclimate to a brand new environment/culture/lifestyle/language without having to uproot every 3 months, i am certain that diaspora who desire (as i, as well as many others, do) to move permanently to tanzania to help build and make the country even better, we will be more successful at doing so. this, in turn, will boost the economy and everyone will win!
  10. in the west, we’re used to a certain way of conducting business, personal and otherwise. we need to understand and respect local culture and customs. we would like a hub where we can reach out and access resources to help with the transition from the us to tz. a fee-based hub would be well worth the cost if it helped us with the variables you listed above: a) finding suitable accommodation b) starting a business c) adapting to the local environment d) learning swahili language e) dealing with immigration issues there are clusters of repeats in dar, and they’re very helpful. how much more powerful would a collective be for all transitioning diaspora?
