What is your opinion about youtubers talking about mental health on Twitter?
- No opinion
- I think it’s hard to do well, because they’re internet famous on social media saying how social media is bad but asking you to support them on their social media platforms. I don’t think Twitter is the right place to write essays on mental health, but I think a tweet here and there can be productive and almost a check in to your followers and yourself.
- I like it if they agree with me.
- I think that it is a generally good thing to do to spread awareness. One possible worry I would have is Youtubers spreading potentially harmful misinformation about mental health, whether on accident or on purpose.
- Never been on twitter before so I don’t know
- I don't use Twitter, but I think that it is a good way for youtubers to reach their audience in a more interactive way and because they have influence, they might have a better voice in that space than they do speaking from a video or from a livestream with thousands of messages flying by at once.
- None of my business.
- It's good, needs to be less stigmatized.
- I think it is a good waybfor them to connect with their audience on the topic, but can also cause an issue if the youtuber in question is poorly informed on the topic.
- Its good done the right way
Do you deal with mental health issues?
What is your opinion about this tweet?
- Good take
- agree with him
- I think if he tweeted this and didn’t continue to follow up on his channel or tweets it would seem performative, but he does continue to speak on these topics so it’s a nice tweet. The ending is a bit strange again though because he needs internet points to have a platform, but it feels like a check in for his fans instead of a complaint as a media star which is nice.
- He’s right you know.
- I think it's a good message to share, I agree with it in many ways.
- Very nice and correct tweet
- I 100% agree with him.
- Needs context.
- It's true
- I agree. Social media can definitely have a negative impact on mental health, and taking a break from it could definitely help if it is a cause for your mental health issues.
Do you believe Jacksepticeye creates a safer environment to talk about mental health? Yes? No? Why do you think so?
- I don't think Jacksepticeye has an impact on the safety of the environment in which mental health is talked about, positive or negative.
- yes, because he has many followers and he helps normalize mental health problems
- I do, he continues to speak on it and shows people that others have these disorders and that they aren’t alone.
- Why not.
- Yes, integrating discussions about mental health with popular culture through social media would most likely create a more open environment in which to discuss mental health related issues.
- Yes, he talks about it in videos too. It makes it easier to relate and he is very encouraging to people struggling with mental health.
- I think he does. I think that there is a stigma about mental health, especially in some communities over others, where people will think that what they are dealing with is somehow shameful or that they should be trying harder, when in fact it's completely out of our control, regardless of whether an individual is dealing with a clinical, lifelong mental disorder or illness, or if they fall into a depression for some reason or another but can eventually get out. When people talk about mental health and they have a large audience, especially if a large amount of their audience looks up to them, then they have an opportunity to remove the stigma and potentially influence people to go see a therapist, or at the very least do some research to find out if they should, or even simply to become more supportive of their friends who do struggle with mental health.
- What do you mean by "environment"? Jacksepticeye did not create Twitter.
- Yes, by talking about it.
- Yes. He seems to be well informed, kind, and willing to learn when it comes to the topic of mental health. I believe he has created a very safe place to talk about mental health.
Thank you so much for participating! If you have any comments you'd like to share, feel free!
- I'd be more inclined to think positively of Jacksepticeye if he wasn't friends with known nazi Pewdiepie :( it makes me sad because I am Jewish
- Sometimes I like to ignore social media and bingewatch Sailor Moon instead. It’s much better for my mind than social media.
- Gl on ur survey
- love you
- Nice survey! And very interesting topic
