The Effects of Public Opinion on the Proposed TikTok Ban in the USA

Many countries such as Afghanistan, India, and Pakistan banned TikTok for spreading misinformation and privacy/security concerns. What do you think of this?

  1. that it is communist and the governments only want you to know what they want you to know.
  2. short answer: good. on one hand, people should be allowed to express themselves and share their opinions, like many people do on tiktok. false information can be spread on any platform, even outside of social media, so banning tiktok doesn’t necessarily stop the spread of misinformation. the concerns for privacy and security seem to be more legitimate.
  3. n/a
  4. agree with them
  5. i agree with tiktok being punished somehow if their company’s privacy/security policy is inefficient and if they are allowing users to spread misinformation. banning tiktok from these countries definitely is a solution. however, it makes me wonder if there aren’t other solutions that don’t necessarily keep users from these countries from enjoying the advantages that this social media can bring.
  6. in some specific issues, i agree that tiktok should be banned, as the platform itself could be used as a propaganda tool or for spreading misinformation. not to mention the privacy-related issues. however, there are other platforms that could be considered tools for spreading misinformation, not just tiktok. it is quite tricky to define misinformation nowadays due to the popularity of the internet.
  7. c'est une limitation de la liberté d'expression.
  8. i think they are misinformed about how tiktok works.
  9. good
  10. could be a potential issue.
  11. i agree with them. any type of social media must be correctly regulated.
  12. i don't exactly have an opinion on it.
  13. i think it’s important to regulate news. a lot of fake news/propaganda spreads like wildfire through different social media platforms like tiktok. regulating misinformation is important.
  14. if they think it's better this way, why not ban it?
  15. it's overreacting, as any social media can be characterized as a place for the spread of misinformation.
  16. i think it is good because misinformation leads to violence, wars, and hate.
  17. i think social media in general operates at a high risk of spreading misinformation, so if tiktok were to be banned, then other social media platforms should receive the same treatment. i would just recommend stricter regulations on tiktok.
  18. right
  19. i think it is good because misinformation leads to hate, and that is not good for society.
