Travel Safe

Hypothetically if your son/daughter is planning to go travelling, how do you see your role as a parent in supporting your child with preparation?

  1. Regular contact, knowing itenary.
  2. Having taken them abroad a lot as children being used to travelling. Being safety conscious and not taking risks
  3. Get them to research destinations make sure they have a safety net/ plan in place. Regular communication
  4. Making them very aware that not all people are nice and they equipped mentally for traveling alone
  5. At this time with public health and personal safety concerns, I would only consider supporting certain kinds of travel to minimize challenging situations and maximize safety - planning, back up plans, staying in perhaps more $ or established places and with avoiding being alone, having copies of personal documents, scheduled check ins, avoiding certain destinations.
  6. Preparing clothing and equipment to stay safe, helping with phone contracts, bank cards / means of accessing money, emergency contacts if needed, checking our destinations for safety
  7. Ensuring they have the means to communicate on a regular basis (text/message) and in an emergency
  8. Getting information on things to do. Organising visas. Giving money. Suggesting trips
  9. Ensure they known potential dangers, dodgy areas, places to stay, places to avoid, key sights to see.
