article review: have a selection of articles to review on the day of the conference. as part of the session, a facilitator guides the group to share ideas and thoughts on the article and how this might inspire their practice.
invite a local bookstore or toy store to display items for sale. or someone from virl.
share your favorite children's book and how it was shared with the children in your program. could there be space for people to set up documentation or display some of their invitations to play? this could be an open space where people could browse the selection throughout the day.
at the open conference, we had music at lunchtime, a children's performer; they were great, and it really helped keep us active for the afternoon.

activism. methods of engaging larger numbers of people on twitter and facebook. i just attended the bcgeu childcare conference. we need to empower and equip our field to influence decision-makers that children and families matter. why is it that a seven-year-old has the right to an education wherever she lives or however much her parents earn, but a three-year-old doesn't? people are paying up to $1900 per month in the lower mainland for infant-toddler care. early childhood educators (eces) are still making an average of $15 per hour. british columbia and saskatchewan are the last provinces without a formal plan. canada ranks last among 20 countries in gdp spending on this issue. children with extra needs are left in the cold with long waitlists. this is not good enough. we are losing half of our eces within the first five years of their graduation due to low wages. we are supplementing the government. enough! it's time we stand up for ourselves.
using other social media such as facebook/blogs/websites and integrating pedagogical narrations/learning stories with social media, first nations curriculum/pedagogy ... here we are in a valley with many first nations communities, yet our ece practice does not seem to reflect their cultural values and practices...(bc aboriginal early learning framework?)
